What is Beast Coast?

Beast coast is a large international gathering to practice parkour, train, play, and connect with people in a festival-like atmosphere.

Who is Beast Coast for?

Beast Coast is for everyone! If you’re a parkour veteran there’s a huge playground for you to train on with friends old and new! If you’re a beginner we offer seminars specifically to teach you the basics to get started, and on top of that, the parkour community is friendly and welcoming to new folks! For kids, there’s a section just for the youngsters, and if it’s been a little longer since you’ve been a kid, we have seminars for those over 40! If you want to train with just your gals, there’s an APK Women’s Meet-Up during the jam! If you just want to see what this parkour thing is all about, grab a spectator pass and prepare to be blown away!

Beast Coast is great for anyone interested in Parkour. From spectators who want to see the amazing athleticism of our international guest athletes, to kids (we have a special kids’ area for kids aged 6-12), to people from our Parkour Over 40 group, Women’s Meetups, seniors, and everyone in between. We have four Beginner Seminars at the event for people who have never tried parkour before, there is no athletic prerequisite or experience necessary.

When is Beast Coast?

Memorial Day Weekend! Saturday, May 25 (from 10am to 5pm), and Sunday, May 26 (from 9am to 4pm).

How do I register?

  1. Click on the registration button
  2. Choose your ticket (Full Weekend or single day)
  3. Answer the questions and complete registration

I’ve never done parkour before, should I still come?

Of course! Beginners are more than welcome at Beast Coast! We even have special beginners  workshops on both Saturday and Sunday mornings for those who are brand new to parkour or for anyone who just wants a refresher course on some of the essential parkour movements. See the schedule for specific times. Locations TBD at the park.

What will I learn at the beginner’s workshops?

We’ll go through some of the foundation moves of parkour, such as jumping, landing and rolling, and also some training philosophy, starting with how to train safely in any environment.

How many Seminars can I sign up for?

Seminars are being run a bit differently this year. Many of our guest athletes are running specific seminars, which will appear on the schedule; you are welcome to attend as many of these as you like. Other guest athletes are here to train with people, and will be running “organic seminars”: in other words, introduce yourself and go train with them. It is likely that there will be groups formed around them already, as they are natural leaders and love helping others enjoy parkour.

Do I need a parent with me if I’m under 18?

If you are a minor you MUST be pre-registered to attend. Otherwise if you register day of, your parent or legal guardian must be present. Absolutely no exceptions will be made as this is an insurance requirement.

I want to bring my son/daughter who is younger. Is this a good idea? Will they enjoy the event?

Absolutely! We welcome people of all ages and abilities at this event! For anyone under 13, parents must stay the event. Every children’s ticket comes with one free spectator pass for their accompanying adult. Or, buy a ticket and jump in!

What about spectators?

Not sure you want to participate? Maybe you just want to sit back and check out all the action? Head to our registration page and select the “Spectator” ticket.

What should I bring?

  • ID
  • Comfortable athletic clothing
  • Plenty of water or hydration pack
  • Sunscreen
  • $$$ for breakfast/lunch/dinner
  • Change of clothes
  • Change of shoes and socks in case it’s wet

Who will be there?

We have athletes from every corner of the U.S. and all over the world who come to Beast Coast. All ages, all abilities. Traceurs, traceuses, freerunners, movement artists, slackliners, trickers, and more! This year’s special guest athletes include  Dom Di Tommaso, Joe Scandrett, Calen Chan, Luke Albrecht, Charlie Havill, Chad Zwadlo, and Seth Ruji. Come join the fun!

What if I don’t know anyone?

One of the best things about jams is that you meet so many awesome people! You’ll make lots of new friends throughout the weekend so don’t worry if you’re coming alone or don’t know a lot of people there! And if you need a friend, seek out a volunteer and ask them to introduce you to some people.

Where is the event?

Gateway Park in Rosslyn, VA (Rosslyn Metro Stop on the Orange/Blue line).

How do I get around?

The DC Metro (WMATA: http://www.wmata.com/) is the easiest way to get around. We recommend purchasing a SmarTrip Card because it will be much cheaper if you plan on using the metro a few times over the weekend. The best option is the “SmarTrip Card with $8 Stored Value.” The card costs $2 and comes with $8 in stored value for a total price of $10. Buy them at any metrorail station or online here: https://smartrip.wmata.com/storefront.

How do I get to Gateway Park?

Gateway Park is easy to get to by public transportation! You can either take the Blue/Orange Line to the Rosslyn Metro Stop, or you can take one of many buses into Georgetown from anywhere in DC and then walk across the Key Bridge which takes you directly to Gateway Park.

Is there parking?

There is limited street parking available.

Will there be bathrooms?

Yes. There are multiple bathrooms as part of the park amenities.

Will there be food/water available?

We will have food and beverages available for sale at the event. We will have Arlington County Water providing Filtered Tap water, which holds true to our “Leave No Trace” ethos. We will not sell bottled water and we encourage you to use reusable water bottles. APK Stay Fluid bottles will be for sale at the event for just $5. There are also tons of restaurants nearby so you will not be going thirsty or hungry!

What vegetarian/vegan food options are available?

We will have veggie burgers at the food stand. Several restaurants in the area have vegetarian options.

If I have questions/concerns at the jam, who do I talk to?

Leading up to the jam, if you have questions, please feel free to shoot us an email at info@americanparkour.com. You can also send us a message on Facebook or any of our social media platforms. At the event itself, there will be lots of awesome volunteers who will be there to help you with any questions you have – look for the volunteer shirts.

Will there be an open gym at Primal Fitness on Friday?

There will be open gym at APK Academy/Primal Fitness.

What should I do on Monday?

Come hiking and rock scrambling at Great Falls. This is not an official part of the event, however many of the people who come to Beast head out to this beautiful natural playground.

Is there transportation available to Great Falls?

Nope. Hop on the Beast Coast Facebook Event Page (Link) and talk to some locals 🙂

How do I get into the official Beast Coast video?

Be awesome, duh. Group photos are actually on the schedule this year. Please don’t bring any signs or banners to the group photos as we want to see everyone’s beautiful faces 🙂

Can I buy clothes there?

Yes! We will have a pop-up store with all of our awesome APK Store items for sale in addition to items from our sponsors.

What is “Send a Beast to Beast”?

It’s another great way to help: by buying a “Send a Beast to Beast” ticket, you will sponsor a child from the District of Columbia public school system and give them a chance to come play and learn at Beast Coast.

Find out more about the initiative here: http://americanparkour.com/news/send-a-beast-to-beast/

The parkour community has lost some very dear friends. Mark takes a moment to share his experiences with people  and remind us of the importance of the support and connection we build through community.

What’s the dog’s name again?

Winnie.

Can I bring my dog?

No.

But what about those other three dogs?
